I have decided to replace the USDA “Food Pyramid” with the
“Do It The Hard Way” Healthy Pie.

The healthy pie includes the usual food groups; broken down as follows (amounts are per day):

·        Vegetables = 2 ˝ - 3 cups

·        Fruits = 2 cups

·        Whole Grains = 6 ounces

·        Dairy = 3 cups

·        Proteins (meats, beans, nuts, ect.) = 5 – 6 ounces

·        Healthy Fats = 20% - 25% of daily calories

·        Unhealthy Fats = 5% - 10% of daily calories (total fats should not exceed 30% of daily calories)

·        Exercise between 30 and 90 minutes per day (don’t be alarmed at those numbers we’ll discuss this later.)

·        And Finally, the most important piece of the pie:

o       A big hefty dose of COMMON SENSE

As you can see the “common sense” slice is the biggest piece of the pie. If you don’t use common sense every day, then you may be making a lot of incorrect choices.

Some examples of common sense:

·        You can’t eat ˝ pound of bacon, 3 scrambled eggs with whole milk and cheese, white toast with butter, a 16 oz. glass of orange juice, and coffee with 3 sugars and cream for breakfast – and think you are going to lose weight.

·        Eating at restaurants (fast food or otherwise) several times a week is not part of any healthy diet.

·        Squeezing a device that looks like a butterfly between your knees for five minutes three times a week is not going to give you a body like Suzanne Somers.

·        If it sounds too good to be true – it is.
